He also practices in the area of professional liability defense, including engineering and medical malpractice. He was previously an associate attorney with The Miller Law Firm, P.C. in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Merpi’s clients range from Fortune 500 companies, to attorneys general, to professionals, to small local businesses and closely held corporations.

Mr. Merpi has achieved results for his clients through a final award and judgment, through aggressive motion practice, and through negotiation and settlement, saving clients money and getting them back to business. Mr. Merpi successfully defended an auto parts supplier against an $80 million trade secrets counterclaim. After a three week arbitration, in which he examined key lay and expert engineering witnesses, the three arbitrator panel unanimously awarded $0 on the $80 million claim and instead awarded six figures on his client’s claim. Mr. Merpi has also successfully defended a Chinese auto-maker against a nine-figure federal contract lawsuit. He has obtained temporary restraining orders (TROs) and immediate transfers of possession of property to protect his clients’ commercial interests and assets. He has also successfully appealed to the Sixth Circuit, retaining federal jurisdiction over his client’s constitutional takings claim, after which he negotiated a $2.4 million settlement in his client’s favor.

Mr. Merpi also has experience in class action litigation, including antitrust, product liability, breach of warranty, and consumer protection. Mr. Merpi received his JD, cum laude, from Wayne State University Law School in 2011, where he was a Senior Articles Editor of the Wayne Law Review, coach and competitor on the Wayne State Moot Court Team, and board member of the Sports and Entertainment Law Society. Mr. Merpi’s work, The Lisbon Treaty and E.U. Treaty-Making Power: The Next Evolutionary Step and its Effect on Member States and Third-Party Nations, 56 WAYNE L. REV. 795 (2010) was published by the Wayne Law Review. Mr. Merpi received his B.F.A. in Theatre, with highest honors, with a minor in Creative Writing from New York University in 2004.

Prior to law school, Mr. Merpi pursued an acting career in New York, particularly in musical theatre, and performed in regional theatres around the country. In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Merpi enjoys spending time with his wife and two young sons, golfing, skiing, singing, and playing his piano and guitar.
