ATTORNEY 

Cristel Shepherd is an experienced attorney representing clients in a wide variety of areas, including regulatory matters, business disputes, litigation, and healthcare.  She focuses her practice in the areas of professional liability litigation, healthcare and risk management.  Over the past decade, she has litigated various complex cases involving medical, financial, and regulatory issues on behalf of individual and institutional clients, appearing in administrative proceedings, district and appellate court.

As a former Assistant Attorney General who served as litigation and general counsel to the Colorado State Pharmacy Board and eight other regulatory programs, she has the in-depth understanding necessary to effectively advocate for professionals in licensure, credentialing, and malpractice disputes.  Prior to joining the Colorado Attorney General’s Office, Cristel gained experience in financial services litigation as an associate of a national law firm.  She advocated on behalf of institutional lenders in state and federal court during all phases of litigation. 

Cristel has achieved successful outcomes on behalf of her clients, including favorable opinions in multiple Colorado Court of Appeals cases, as well as numerous positive outcomes in civil and administrative disputes.  She is a skilled negotiator, often helping her clients achieve their desired outcomes through settlement. 

In addition to her legal practice, Cristel is a committed animal welfare advocate, partnering with local and regional rescues to find homes for animals in overburdened shelters.  She has fostered more than fifty dogs over the past 10 years.  She has also served as guardian ad litem for the Rocky Mountain Children’s Law Center, providing pro bono advocacy to ensure children have a safe and stable home with caregivers who meet their needs.
